This is the first workout I’ve bought by Paul Katami so I wasn’t sure what to expect with his personality, but I had read good reviews of this DVD on a fitness forum, so I decided to give it a try. I really like this workout! Paul is very motivating and encouraging, and he makes it possible to get through this hard workout while enjoying it.

The set is very plain and minimal, and there are two female background exercises. Paul also works along with the workout. (It’s fun to see that he also struggles with how hard this workout is — at one point, he sort of stumbles during a tough lunge sequence.) They use just one pair of dumbbells, but I’ve found that I use three different sets of dumbbells.

The workout follows this format: one minute of aerobics, one minute of leg work, one minute of upper-body work, and one minute of abs/core. (The four-minute format is the reason for the “4×4″ in the title of this workout.) There are five of these 4×4 blocks, and you repeat each of the five blocks twice, with a bonus segment at the very end of the workout. It comes in at 60 minutes long.

The only real negative is that the music on this workout is really bland and hard to hear. While Paul’s personality is engaging and enough to keep you motivated, it would be really nice to have some better music to help you stay pumped. Overall, though, it’s a great workout, and it’s really tough! I like it so much that I’m going to purchase a few more workouts from Paul.
